An AIDS 2022 satellite: Getting person-centred care right: Good practice models of integrating HIV and other health needs

Brent currently occupies several ongoing senior advisor positions focusing upon programs and policy for several global and domestic agencies and industry partners.  Brent has been working in the community response to HIV/AIDS for over 30 years across several countries and have qualifications in health education, business, community services management as well as public and social health experience with local, state and federal governments, as well as global industries. They are one of the founders of the Positive Leadership Development Institute Australia/New Zealand – an international collaboration between Canada and Australia focusing upon leadership development and resilience building for people living with HIV in the face of HIV stigma and discrimination. They are also a global civil society representative to the International AIDS Society’s Industry Liaison Forum. Brent identifies as a non-binary person who has been living with HIV for over 25 years. They have been active in efforts to build the capacity of people living with HIV through advocacy, education and representation, and he regularly provides technical assistance to global networks, governments, civil society and industry on matters of best practice in community-based services, research and development. Brent is a passionate advocate for civil society and consumer representation in health service policy, programming and evaluation, and has been a vocal advocate and champion for the rights sex workers, people who use drugs as well as vulnerable and marginalised people working on the frontlines with gender and sexually diverse communities.

Mr Doan Thanh Tung is the executive Director of Lighthouse Social Enterprise, an organization led-by and is serving young KPs in Viet Nam. He is a young gay man and a LGBTI& HIV activist who has more than 10-year experience working in community development, community health and rights, and HIV/AIDS response program.  

Baker Bakashaba works at the AIDS Support Organization (TASO) in Uganda as the Regional Project Manager for the Accelerating HIV Epidemic Control in Soroti Region Project – a regional project funded by PEPFAR through CDC. Dr. Bakashaba has managed HIV/AIDS programs for more than twelve years, focusing on the design and implementation of facility- and community-based, client-centered projects, and health systems strengthening. He has contributed to the design of community ART models, client-led ART delivery, as well as other national-level DSD models. Dr. Bakashaba received his MBChB Degree from Makerere University in Uganda. He is a member of the CQUIN Advisory Group hosted by ICAP at Columbia.

Rodenie Arnaiz Olete is a registered professional nurse in the Philippines who recently finished Master of Science in International Advanced Practice Nursing (MSc-IAPN) from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Taiwan. He is about to pursue a PhD in Public Health in the same university in September 2022. His work in programs development in the Philippines focused on intersecting issues on HIV and AIDS including mental health and socioeconomic disparity among Filipino LGBTQIA+ and PLHIV communities. He was a consultant of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC)-Philippines and conducted a mixed-method research on Chemsex among Filipino MSM in 2019. As the current Director of Programs and Research for Gabay sa Pulang Laso Inc. (GPLI), he formalized the structural model of psycho-socioeconomic interventions for residentially-displaced PLHIV in the Philippines. He is also a part-time clinical instructor/lecturer at the College of Nursing in Iloilo Doctors’ College.

Daisy Kwala is a health rights activist. She is very passionate about HIV and mainly advocates for treatment as prevention. As the care manager at Bar Hostess empowerment & support program, her core work is to champion for the rights and freedom of young girls, adolescent women using drugs and young sex workers living with HIV to promote positive living and access to quality healthcare for all female sex workers.
