Dr. Christopher Akolo, MD, MSc, FWACP, is an internal medicine/infectious disease specialist with over 29 years of clinical experience, including over 23 years’ experience with implementation of HIV prevention, care, and treatment programs in resource limited settings and provision of HIV services to key populations, especially men who have sex with men and female sex workers. Chris is currently based in Washington, DC, as the Technical Director for the HIV Department of FHI 360, as well as the Technical Director for the FHI 360-led Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project, funded by PEPFAR/USAID. Chris leads a team of technical experts and specialists that are implementing HIV programs across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. He holds a medical degree and a MSc in Global Health Science from Oxford University, UK. He has been part of several global teams, including those that revised the current WHO STI Guidelines, WHO KP Guidelines, and the current WHO guidelines on isoniazid preventive therapy. His areas of interest include key populations programming, antiretroviral therapy, HIV treatment failure, PrEP, TB, STI services, operations research, and stigma reduction within health facilities.
