COVID-19 and HIV: What you need to know

Lucy Stackpool-Moore is the former Director, HIV Programmes and Advocacy at the IAS in Switzerland. She is currently a Senior Advisor (consultative role) at the IAS. Her professional experience is founded in multi-sectoral responses to HIV and public health, “rights-from-below” approaches to human rights and participatory approaches that amplify diverse voices and enable community development. As a researcher and advocate, her work has focused on documenting and transforming stigma and discrimination in relation to HIV. Stackpool-Moore is a Visiting Fellow with the Law Schools at Birkbeck University of London, UK, and University of Melbourne, Australia, and supervises MSc projects with the Global Health Policy programme at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. She has worked for a variety of international non-governmental organizations and campaigns and has provided technical support to various UN agencies, donors and civil society organizations in Asia and the Pacific, East and southern Africa and the Middle East and North Africa.

Meg Doherty has been the Director of the Department of Global HIV, Hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Infections Programmes at WHO since February 2020. Meg was previously the Coordinator of Treatment and Care in the Department of HIV at WHO Headquarters. She has more than 25 years of experience in HIV and infectious diseases, including leading WHO’s normative and programmatic work on expanding HIV treatment to all and reducing inequalities in access to the most effective antiretrovirals for people living with HIV. Meg spent 10 years in low- and middle-income countries, advising ministries of health and international partners on implementing comprehensive HIV and infectious disease programmes, including five years in Ethiopia as the Director of Clinical and Training Services for JHUTSEHAI, a PEPFAR implementing partner supported by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Anton Pozniak is a consultant physician in HIV Medicine at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Professor in the Department of Clinical Research at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, UK. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1996 and a life member of the British HIV Association in 2014.

Anton is the Immediate Past President of the International AIDS Society and has served as a Track B programme committee member for AIDS 2006 and AIDS 2010 and has been a plenary speaker at AIDS 2008. At IAS 2017 and AIDS 2018, he was a member of the Conference Coordinating Committee, and for AIDS 2020, he was Co-Chair. He is a governing board and guidelines committee member of the European AIDS Clinical Society and the President of the European AIDS trial network, NEAT-ID. Anton is also a member of the British HIV Association (BHIVA) anti-viral HIV guidelines committee and chairs the TB/HIV guidelines committee.

Anton has been an advisor on HIV and AIDS to the UK Government Health Select Committee and a member of the expert advisory group on AIDS for the UK Department of Health. He was DSMB Chair of the PROUD study and is currently DSMB Chair of the MRC Odyssey and Smile studies. He is the principal investigator for a five-year test-and-treat project in Tanzania and a board member of the charity, CUAMM UK. He has published more than 400 peer-reviewed papers, mainly on clinical aspects of HIV treatment and care and HIV-associated tuberculosis.
