Future care is shared: redefining peer support. What role will peer support play in the evolution of HIV care?

Diagnosed with HIV in 1991, Garry has championed patient involvement and peer-delivered support since co-founding the Bloomsbury Network in 1999. Over two decades of work in the HIV voluntary sector (YMCA, THT, Positively UK and NAT), his primary focus has been to increase access to peer support locally and nationally, to reduce stigma and improve the lives and experiences of people living with HIV. 

In 2023 he took up the role of Programme Manager for Transformation Partners in Health & Care, to oversee London’s Fast-Track Cities (FTC) improvement collaborative projects between the NHS and HIV voluntary sector, aiming to integrate peer support workers in every London HIV clinic.   

Garry is current Chair of the UK CAB (HIV treatment advocates network) and has served as a community representative on BHIVA and NHIVNA Executive, BASHH and BMA committees, the HIV CRG and London’s FTC Leadership Group.
