REALIZE Canada
Realize is the leading national, charitable, organization in Canada working to improve the health and well-being of people living with HIV and other episodic disabilities, across the lifespan, through research, education, policy, and practice. We envision a future in which people living with HIV enjoy a life of optimal health and well-being; our strategic directions – one of which is Healthy Aging across the Lifespan – propel us toward this goal. For 25 years Realize has championed innovations in addressing the social determinants of health – including ageism - that influence the effectiveness of the HIV response. We also lead PANACHE, a community-based participatory research study assessing the care and support needs of people age 60+ living with HIV in Canada. Realize is a catalyst, convening diverse collaborators (e.g., people with living expertise, community organizations, policy makers, researchers, health professionals, etc.) from the HIV community and the aging sector through mechanisms like the National Coordinating Committee on HIV and Aging, and the International Coalition of Older People with HIV (iCOPe HIV). In 2022 at AIDS2022, we led the planning and implementation of the first Global Village Networking Zone for aging people living with HIV – The Silver Zone.
