Person-centred care stakeholder consultations - What are the core elements and mechanisms of person-centred care within the HIV response?

Marlène Bras has more than 12 years of experience in public health, research and management in the HIV field. She is the Director, HIV Programmes and Advocacy at the IAS and also the Executive Editor of the Journal of the International AIDS Society (JIAS). A basic scientist by training, Marlène has worked across HIV disciplines from basic and clinical sciences to behavioural, epidemiology and implementation sciences.

Rodenie Arnaiz Olete is a Filipino registered nurse currently pursuing a PhD in Public Health at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, and a nursing clinical instructor at Iloilo Doctors’ College in the Philippines. As the technical consultant of Gabay sa Pulang Laso, he spearheaded the development of a Supportive-Expressive Group Therapy-based psycho-socioeconomic intervention for people living with HIV experiencing homelessness in the Philippines. He was also the lead researcher of a nationwide survey exploring chemsex among Filipino men who have sex with men, in collaboration with the UNODC-Philippines. As the former programs manager of Sustained Health Initiatives of the Philippines, he implemented capacity-building programmes for health care professionals in the country. His work emphasizes the value of synergistic implementation of biomedical and non-biomedical HIV prevention approaches.

Dr. Lisa Sterman began her career in HIV as a volunteer on San Francisco General Hospital’s infamous AIDS Unit, Ward 5A, in 1987. She has worked in private practice as an HIV specialist and Internist and teaching faculty in San Francisco for 24 years, also doing extensive HIV phase 2-4 clinical research and HIV consulting, during that time. Dr. Sterman also served on the Board of Directors for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation for 7 years until 2017, and currently serves on the organization’s Community Board of Directors. Dr. Sterman joined Gilead Sciences in 2021 as Global Executive Director of HIV prevention for Medical Affairs. She is committed to ending the HIV epidemic for everyone, everywhere.

Keith Mienies is the Technical Advisor for Community Responses and Systems and focal point for six High Impact Africa portfolios in West and Central Africa for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Keith leads the Fund’s work and strategic investments in community-led monitoring for HIV, TB and Malaria.

Lucy Stackpool-Moore is Watipa’s Founder and Managing Director, and is a recognised authority in global health in relation to diversity, inclusion and reducing stigma. Committed to human rights and social justice, Lucy embeds these principles throughout her roles managing teams, implementing projects, developing strategies, and facilitating professional education programmes. In 2022 she facilitated a series of consultations for NAPWHA and ASHM on person-centred care and HIV treatment initiation, and is currently supporting the finalisation of the national STI strategy for Australia. Proudly Australian, she draws on more than 25 years of experience working in diverse community contexts in Africa, Asia, Europe, and across Australia.

Brent, Deputy Director at NAPWHA, leads activities on HIV health, and quality of life. With extensive experience in peer support and management, he has contributed to various programs and research partnerships in the Australian HIV sector.

Benjamin Riley is the Policy and Public Affairs Manager at the Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine, leading the organisation’s policy and advocacy work. Benjamin’s work has focused on advocating for people affected by blood-borne viruses, and LGBTIQ communities.
