Women Know What Works - Celebrating the successes of women living with HIV in the global response - WKWW SESSION 1 part 1

Dr. Callaghan is a global health advocacy, communications, and policy leader with over 20 years' experience working across countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Europe. She is currently Executive Director, Public Affairs at Gilead Sciences, as Global Head of Advocacy, Community Engagement, and International Corporate Social Responsibility.

Larkin previously served as Director of Communications at the AIDS Research Institute, Managing Director of the UCSF-Gladstone Center for AIDS Research, Global Health Programs Director at Stanford University, and Director of Implementation of the PEPFAR-ICAP PHIA Project. As a UN correspondent, she worked with country missions, ambassadors, press teams, covering sociopolitical issues in the global south. She has taught graduate courses at Columbia, UCSF, and Stanford. 

Larkin received her master's, doctorate, and post-doctoral training from Columbia University. She serves on the Board of Directors of Komera, SisterLove, the Ginetta Sagan Fund of Amnesty International, and the UCSF Malaria Elimination Initiative.  She co-chaired the AIDS2020 Local Planning Group, serving HIV communities represented at the 2020 International AIDS Conference.

Susan Cole is an award-winning HIV activist, public speaker, writer, broadcaster and health equity change-maker. She has over two decades of leadership in the HIV sector, spearheading innovative initiatives with national and global impact, particularly for women and people from racially minoritised communities. 

She is a Board Member of the Global Network of People Living with HIV, member of the 4M Network of Mentor Mothers, and co-founder & Executive Director of Phoenix Health Movement, the new health equity non-profit organisation. She is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, invited for her work in tackling health inequalities in HIV. 

Charity Mkona is a passionate advocate and feminist with a strong commitment to the rights and well-being of women, particularly WLHIV. She has dedicated many years to advancing gender equality and social justice, focusing on improving the lives of WLHIV through advocacy, policy reform, and public health initiatives. She currently serves as the Board Chairperson of ICW Global, where she leads strategic initiatives focused on advocacy and empowerment for PLHIV. With extensive experience in HIV response and management, Charity has been at the forefront of shaping effective strategies and programs aimed at improving access to healthcare and promoting awareness. Her diverse expertise spans project management, global health, and community-based development, making her a passionate and influential leader in the field. She has been a vocal leader in addressing the unique challenges faced by women in the context of HIV, as she continues to push for better access to healthcare, legal protections, and social support systems for women affected by HIV, advocating for their voices to be heard and their needs to be prioritized in health and human rights policies.

Gumisayi Bonzo is the Trans Smart Trust Zimbabwe Director & founder of Zimbabwe Mighty women of Hope working with HIV positive ex-inmates. She was the 2021 PEPFAR heroine, & 2019 ARASA Trainer of the Year. She is fighting for the recognition of transgender & intersex persons & DIverse sub populations including the aging who are HIV+.
