STIs: Global trends and prevention interventions

Dr. Renata Arrington Sanders is the Division Chief of Adolescent Medicine at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine. Her work focuses on optimizing the prevention and treatment care of youth at-risk for and living with HIV through HIV. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Health Resources and Services Administration, and National Institute of Health fund her work. She currently serves on the CDC/HRSA Advisory Committee (CHAC) on HIV, Viral Hepatitis and STD Prevention & Treatment, the International AIDS Society Governing Council, American Board of Pediatrics, SIECUS, and American Sexual Health Association.

Chase Cannon, MD, MPH (he/him) is an Assistant Professor of Infectious Diseases at University of Washington and Medical Director for the Public Health – Seattle & King County Sexual Health Clinic. His clinical practice and research focus broadly on HIV/STI prevention and center on the idea of collaboration to increase knowledge and empower people to meet their own health goals. Dr. Cannon joined the US Doxy-PEP team in 2022 to lead behavioral analyses from the trial and was a key contributor to the clinical guidelines for doxy-PEP use in Seattle-King County.

Felix Mogaka is a clinical research scientist at the Kenya Medical Research Institute – Research Care and Training Program (KEMRI-RCTP) in Kisumu, Kenya. His research interests are in prevention of HIV and sexually transmitted infections and was part of the doxycycline PEP Trial among cisgender women in Kenya. He studied medicine and surgery (MBChB) at the University of Nairobi and has an MPH from the University of Washington, Seattle.

Sinead Delany-Moretlwe, MBBCh PhD DTM&H. Professor of Global Health & Infectious Diseases at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg and Director: Research, Wits RHI

Stephanie Cohen, MD, MPH is the Director of HIV/STI Prevention Section at the San Francisco Department of Health. She is an assistant professor at UCSF in the Division of HIV, infectious diseases and global medicine, and is an HIV primary care provider. Her research focuses on using implementation science to guide the translation of STI and HIV prevention research into clinical and public health practice. She was a co-investigator and site PI for the “DoxyPEP study”, a randomized controlled study of doxycycline PEP to prevent STIs.
