HIV prevention strategies

Devin Sok, PhD, current serves as Head of Science at the Global Health Investment Corporation. Devin provides scientific and technical support across GHIC's investment, impact and programmatic activities and leads the GHIC Frontier Fund, a non-dilutive funding initiative launched in partnership with BARDA to accelerate early-stage technologies in the field of global health security. Previously, Devin was Vice President of Discovery at the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), where he led discovery and innovation efforts across IAVI’s global research portfolio, including scientific direction for HIV antibody and vaccine research programmes in Africa and India. Devin also led the Sok lab at the IAVI Neutralizing Antibody Center at Scripps Research, focused on the mechanisms of antibody-mediated protection against infectious diseases and antibody product development to prevent or treat neglected diseases that disproportionately affect low- and middle-income countries. Devin received his BS in chemistry from Stanford University and a PhD in immunology and microbiology at Scripps Research.

With more than 20 years of public health and international development experience, Birgit Poniatowski has been the IAS Executive Director since November 2020, following more than five years at the organization leading an expanding team responsible for resource mobilization, sustainable partnerships across diverse sectors and key strategic initiatives.

Prior to joining the IAS, she was the Director for Investment and Partnerships at the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, and earlier managed partnerships and supported the organization’s multi-stakeholder governance processes at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. She was educated at Bonn and Heidelberg Universities in Germany and International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan. She holds a PhD from Heidelberg University, Germany.
