HIV in children: What are the challenges?

Prof. Pierre Frange is a paediatrician at the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory of Necker Hospital and a research clinician at Université Paris Cité, Paris, France. He is involved for a long time in the care of pregnant women, children and adolescents living with HIV and other severe viral diseases, and in numerous research studies on this topic.
Pierre is the scientific manager of the French perinatal cohort ANRS-MIE 0288s VIROPREG and he co-chairs the Coordinated Action « Mothers & Children » of the French Agency for Research on AIDS, viral hepatitis and emergent infectious diseases (ANRS-MIE).
Pierre is a member of the Board of Directors of the EVA network («Enfant et VIH en Afrique »/ « Children and HIV in Africa » ) and a member of the Scientific Committee of the NGO Solthis. Pierre is also a co-author of the EACS/Penta Guidelines for Treatment of Paediatric HIV.

Dr. Nziza is an immunologist, with a strong international background, who studies pediatric infectious diseases.

Assistant Professor

Faiaz has a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. In his current role as a postdoctoral researcher, at the Africa health research institute in Durban, he aims to do a comparative analysis of viral reservoirs in tonsil tissue in children and adults living with HIV. He is a recent recipient of the SANTHE HIV cure acceleration program (SHARP) funded by Gilead.

Sophia Osawe research focuses on implementing birth cohorts in her home country Nigeria to explore correlates of immune protection to HIV. Sophia has a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology.
